How is stress echocardiography done?
In our clinic, we use a bicycle ergometer - a special exercise bike with a programmable load - a recumbent ergometer - to load the heart.
It is necessary for the patient to increase the load on the heart while lying down for a convenient ECHO examination.
As the load increases, a series of ultrasound scans are performed and the condition of the heart, the level of blood supply to the heart and the mobility of the walls at the height of the load are recorded. The load level is selected individually for each patient.
How to prepare for a stress echo?
- Avoid caffeine for 24 hours before the test.
- Follow your doctor's instructions about taking your medications on the day of the test. Do not stop taking any medications without consulting your doctor.
- Do not eat or drink anything for several hours before the test.
- Do not smoke or use tobacco products that day.
- Wear comfortable clothing and shoes that allow you to pedal your bike freely.
