Holter ECG monitoring

When is it necessary to perform Holter ECG monitoring?

In cases where the data of a conventional electrocardiogram are not sufficient to detect heart rhythm disturbances, a Holter ECG is used. The Holter ECG monitoring system (HME) is a continuous recording of the heart rhythm for a certain time (a day or more, depending on the indications). This approach to diagnosing heart diseases allows you to track changes in its activity under the influence (or in the absence) of any loads: during sleep, during wakefulness, food consumption, manifestations of emotions, and so on. The indications for the installation of a Holter device are determined by a doctor. Before conducting the study, it is recommended to come for a consultation with a cardiologist.

Preparation before Holter ECG

Before the Holter monitoring procedure, you must take a shower. Do not apply cream or other products. The skin surface must be clean and dry. Men should remove their hair, as further removal of the electrodes may be painful.

How is a Holter ECG performed?

Disposable electrodes are attached to the patient's chest, from which wires extend to a special device (holter). It is small in size and weight. The holter records the information coming from the electrodes. It is attached to the belt or with a shoulder strap. The patient walks with this device for a certain period of time. After this period, the device is returned to the clinic.
