Benefits of undergoing a cardiac rehabilitation program:

Rehabilitation of cardiac patients is aimed not only at treating existing heart problems, but also at preventing new ones.

Patients are given the opportunity to learn how to independently control their health with the help of psychological support, guidelines on proper nutrition, physical activity, and recommendations from cardiologists.

Participation in a cardiac rehabilitation program in Kyiv allows you to take care of your health in the rhythm of everyday life, rather than putting it on pause.

The program plan is based on modern European protocols, which allows it to be adjusted to each patient individually.

What does cardiac rehabilitation include (stages):

Initial assessment and planning

First, the cardiologist conducts a detailed examination: analyzes medical documents, communicates with the patient, performs an ECG, cardiac ultrasound, and bicycle ergometry (BEM) to determine physical readiness for rehabilitation and initial objective indicators of physical activity. After that, the patient undergoes initial consultations with a psychologist and a nutritionist to assess the psychological state and draw up an individual nutrition plan. Important: tests are not included in the cost of rehabilitation and are paid separately.

Development of an individual rehabilitation plan

At this stage, a team of specialists – a cardiologist, a rehabilitation specialist, a psychologist and a nutritionist – creates an individual plan for each patient based on the initial data. The medication schedule, nutrition, physical activity and psychological support are taken into account. To ensure a comprehensive approach, a family doctor is involved if necessary.

Preparing for the active phase of rehabilitation

Before starting physical rehabilitation, doctors adjust the necessary health indicators: blood pressure, sugar level, etc. A psychologist and a nutritionist continue to work with the patient to prepare for active loads. If additional correction is not needed, the patient immediately moves on to the next stage.

Active phase of rehabilitation: physical and psychological exercises

The patient begins physical rehabilitation under the supervision of a specialist, and also works with a psychologist for emotional support and motivation. Both areas are aimed at strengthening health and adapting to a new rhythm of life.

Intermediate control

An interim review is conducted after a month. Cycle ergometry helps assess progress, and doctors adjust the load, diet, and prescription as needed. After the interim review, the patient continues the rehabilitation program, taking into account the adjustments made.

Final control and recommendations

Finally, the cardiologist performs a control ultrasound of the heart and provides the patient with recommendations for maintaining health in the future.

Cardiac rehabilitation

According to the definition of the British Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (BACPR), cardiac rehabilitation is a coordinated set of measures necessary both to have a beneficial effect on the causes of cardiovascular disease and to create the best physical, mental and social opportunities that allow the patient to maintain or restore optimal functioning in society and improve their lifestyle in accordance with the advice of health professionals, slow down the progression or promote the reversal of the disease.

Cardiac rehabilitation in the city of Kyiv does not require a break from the usual lifestyle. It is aimed at restoring physical activity, improving the functions of the heart and blood vessels, and controlling risk factors: high blood pressure, overweight, elevated glucose or cholesterol levels.

Duration of cardiac rehabilitation
The basic package of the Dokos Medical cardiac rehabilitation program is designed for 2 months. Depending on the patient's objective need or desire, it is possible to extend for another month or more.

Benefits of using a fitness watch during a cardiac rehabilitation course
In our program, we use a Garmin fitness watch:

  • Built-in Pulse Ox pulse oximeter measures blood oxygen saturation
  • Evaluates your training status using MET (metabolic equivalent)
  • Offers advanced running dynamics data, including foot-to-surface contact balance, stride length, vertical coefficient
  • Physiological indicators and advanced sleep data
  • Battery: up to 7 days in smartwatch mode; up to 6 hours in GPS mode with music
  • Synchronization with phone
  • Ability to share information about physical activity with a rehabilitation therapist

In what format is communication supported?

Our goal is to provide convenience and optimal conditions for you during treatment. A personal manager is involved who communicates with the patient: reminds him of physical activities outside the clinic, helps with nutrition and homework, and, if necessary, contacts doctors. Using a Garmin fitness watch during rehabilitation allows us to monitor your physical indicators with greater accuracy and efficiency.

Are there any contraindications to cardiac rehabilitation?

  • Patients with mental disorders
  • Patients with terminal stages of chronic diseases
  • Patients who are not willing to undergo rehabilitation (forced by relatives)
  • Acute conditions of the patient
  • Musculoskeletal diseases that exclude the possibility of participating in a physical rehabilitation program
  • Uncontrolled autoimmune or infectious diseases

When is cardiac rehabilitation stopped?

  • The appearance of unstable angina;
  • The appearance of serious heart rhythm disturbances during exercise;
  • Progression/development/worsening of heart failure;
  • History of cardiac arrest during physical exertion;
  • Inflammatory (other) disease requiring treatment and a pause in rehabilitation;
  • Need to be absent for family reasons for 1 week (with advance notice and condition of continuing homework) - possibility of freezing attendance;
  • Missing a scheduled class without a good reason/failing to notify of absence from class less than 12 hours before the start - chargeback for class;
  • Missing 3 (THREE) scheduled classes without a good reason - termination of rehabilitation.
